International Students - Once Accepted
to WSC
Once an international student is accepted for admission
by WSC, the student will be able to enter the United
States with a student Visa
F-1 or the J-1
Exchange Visitor.
|
The
F-1 Student Visa is used by most students.
For this temporary visa, you must be enrolled
full-time during the academic year. In order
for you to apply for the visa, the college sends
you a form I-20 with your admission letter,
upon receipt of proof of full financial support.
You then take the form I-20 to a United States
Embassy or Counselor Official to apply for the
visa. |
|
The
J-1 Exchange Visitor Visa
(student category) is designed for certain non-privately
sponsored students. For this temporary visa,
you must be enrolled full time during the academic
year. The form necessary to obtain this visa
is form DS2019. In order for you to apply for
this visa, the sponsoring organizations send
the admitted student the DS2019. You then take
the DS2019 to a United States Embassy or Counselor
Official to apply for the visa. Note:
In order to request the J-1 visa, your funding
must be primarily from non-private sources.
(For example, if your funding is from your government,
you may choose to request the J-1 visa.)
|
If you are a Canadian citizen, you do not
need a visa. Instead, you are required at the port
of entry to present a certificate of eligibility for
non-immigrant status (the I-20 we provide with your
admission letter) and evidence of adequate funding
for your proposed program of study. You will then
be issued a card indicating your student visa status.
The student must provide funds to WSC in advance
if he or she wishes to have this paperwork sent priority
mail.
