Scholarships & Grants
Scholarships, together with grants, are often referred to as "gift assistance"; they do not have to be repaid. Scholarships may be awarded for a single year or for multiple years. In the latter case, there may be renewal criteria associated with keeping the scholarship for subsequent years.
Students who have shown successful academic and extracurricular participation during high school are eligible for Wayne State College’s Merit Scholarships.

All new first-time freshmen who apply for admission by December 1 are considered for scholarships.
To apply for scholarships:
2. Download and fill out the Scholarship Application form completely.
3. Submit two letters of recommendation from teachers who know you and are familiar with your work. (Multicultural Award applicants ONLY: one letter from a school official and one from someone not directly affiliated with the high school.)
4. Submit an essay of 400-500 words. Topic for the essay is: Describe your most meaningful achievements and how they relate to your field of study and your future goals. Please type and double-space the essay.
Some scholarships may require an additional application form.
Applicants will be considered for each of the scholarship for which they are eligible. |

Scholarships for Transfer Students Wayne State College’s current and transfer students are eligible for annual and endowed scholarships. These scholarships are based on specific criteria.

Grants, unlike loans, do not have to be repaid. Wayne State College offers several different types of grants, including:
Federal PELL Grant (PELL) Federal PELL Grant funds are awarded only to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor’s degree or professional degree. These awards are determined by the Federal government through its own methodology . Students must file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Awards for full-time students range from $400 to $4,310.
Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant funds are awarded to undergraduate students who have exceptional financial need and are PELL Grant recipients. Awards for full-time students range from $200 to $1200. FSEOG is a limited fund therefore; recipients are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Nebraska State Grant (NSG) Nebraska State Grant funds are awarded to undergraduate students who are PELL recipients, Nebraska residents, and demonstrate financial need. Awards are made on a first-come, first-serve basis. Awards for full-time students range from $200 to $1200.
Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) Academic Competitiveness Grant funds are awarded to full-time first (0-23 completed credit hours) and second academic year (24-47 completed credit hours) undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens, Federal PELL Grant recipients, have completed a rigorous secondary school program and demonstrate financial need (second year students must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA). Maximum awards are $750 to first-year students; $1300 to second-year students.
Science and Math Access to Retain Talent Grant (SMART) National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant funds are awarded to full-time third (48-71 completed credit hours) and fourth academic year (72-95 completed credit hours) undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens, Federal PELL Grant recipients, enrolled in an eligible major, demonstrate financial need, and maintain a 3.0 cumulate GPA. Maximum awards are $4,000 each year.
