Challenging Placement

If a student wishes to challenge their placement, they may take the COMPASS Exam. Students may only take the COMPASS Exam once, prior to enrolling in their first mathematics course at Wayne State. Based on their placement, students may need to take additional courses as pre-requisites for the mathematics course their major requires.

Earning Credit

Students can earn credit for MAT 110 Topics and Ideas in Math or MAT 121 College Algebra by taking the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) mathematics exam. This option should be discussed with an academic adviser and must be taken prior to completion of a higher-level math course.
