HANDS-ON LEARNING

Education for the Real World

Wayne State College graduates go on to become leaders in their field. In fact, 9 out of every 10 graduates are working in their field of study, in such exciting fields as medicine, journalism and teaching. Why are Wayne State graduates so employable? It’s simple; our approach to education.

Hands-On LearningWith innovative programs such as NENTA ( Northeast Nebraska Teacher Academy) and RHOP (Rural Health Opportunities), our students gain real-world experience and knowledge that prepares them for success both in and out of the classroom.

NENTA places highly qualified Wayne State College teaching majors as substitute teachers in participating school districts. Wayne State College students gain real-world teaching experience while the 14 participating school districts gain insight from students who are learning the latest in curriculum and instruction. This kind of real-world experience makes Wayne State College teaching majors some of the most sought after and employable students after graduation.

Students wishing to explore a career in medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, dental hygiene or clinical laboratory science are prepared for post-graduate study thanks to the RHOP program. Students accepted into the program receive a tuition waiver for their undergraduate study at Wayne State College, and are automatically accepted into programs at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). Upon completion of their study at UNMC, these students go on to become health providers in rural areas throughout Nebraska.

Throughout our campus, you’ll find other great examples of how our students are prepared to become successful members of our workplaces and communities. Examples like our service learning program, the honors program and career planning are just a few.

PERSONAL ATTENTION

Faculty Who Care About Student Success

When you come to our campus, ask any Wayne State College student what they like about attending the region’s most affordable liberal arts college. More than likely, you’ll hear something about how great our professors are.

Personal AttentionSee, at Wayne State College, the focus is not just teaching, but learning. In our classrooms, you’ll find top-notch faculty (not graduate assistants) who focus on student engagement. With a small student-to-faculty ratio (19:1), we keep our classrooms small so that students are involved in class discussion. The end result? Students who are academically challenged, are gaining a real-world education and who feel like their professors care about their academic success.

Fun Fact: More than 80% of our faculty hold the highest degree in their field.

A FRIENDLY CAMPUS

With small class sizes and lots of on-campus activities, Wayne State College is a friendly place to be.

Staci Burbach, a junior from Hartington, Nebraska, describes Wayne State College as a “everyone-offers-a-smile campus.” Jamie Krysl, a sophomore from Atkinson, Nebraska likes that the faculty get to know students’ names. She also adds that it’s easy to get to know a lot of people since the student body is not too large.

Friendly CampusApproximately 3,400 students call Wayne home, where they are active in on-campus events and the community of Wayne. On campus you’ll find ranked NCAA Division II athletics, free events like concerts and movie nights, plus art exhibits and poetry slams, just to name a few.

One favorite hangout on campus is the upper deck of the Student Center. Complete with booths, flat screen TVs and leather couches, this area is great for eating lunch or just lounging.

Wayne , Nebraska is a friendly town. The town of approximately 5,600 people embraces the college and its students. Drive down Wayne’s Main Street, and you’ll find many Wayne State College students serving as employees in local businesses, while faculty and staff members are active members of the community, where they may serve on local school boards or hold leadership positions in civic organizations.

INVOLVEMENT
